Deuteronomy 6:4-9

4 “Hear, O Israel: The Lord is our God, the Lord alone. 5 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. 6 Keep these words that I am commanding you today in your heart. 7 Recite them to your children and talk about them when you are at home and when you are away, when you lie down and when you rise. 8 Bind them as a sign on your hand, fix them as an emblem on your forehead, 9 and write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

The second comes from Nehemiah, chapter 8.

All the people gathered together and asked Ezra the priest to bring the scroll of the Law of Moses, which God had given to Israel.

Ezra stood high on a wooden platform. When he opened the scroll, everyone stood up. (Everyone stands).

Ezra thanked God and all the people lifted their hands and said, “Amen, Amen.” (Everyone says, “Amen, Amen.”)

Before Ezra started reading, the people bowed their faces to the ground and worshiped God. (Everyone bends their head down and says, “Thank you, God.”)

Ezra read the scroll from early morning until the middle of the day for all the people to hear. Everyone who could understand listened to God’s word. As Ezra read, the Levites explained the law, so all the people could understand. When they heard the words, they cried. (Everyone pretends to cry for a moment.)

Nehemiah the governor and Ezra the priest said to all the people, “Do not be sad and do not cry. Today is God’s holy day. Go to your homes and celebrate! Eat delicious foods and share with people who do not have any. You are strong because you are the people of God.”

So the people went home, celebrating because they had heard God’s word and understood it.

(Everyone celebrated with cheers, high fives, and fist bumps.)
