Naaman was a Syrian general who had leprosy and was desperate for a cure. We find his story in 2 Kings chapter five of the Bible. The general is so desperate he is willing to leave his home country and travel to Israel to seek out the prophet Elisha whom he has heard has healed people. This foreign man who leads armies pulls up in front of the humble prophet’s house with all his horses and chariots expecting that Elisha will have him perform some elaborate, formal ritual which will bring about his healing. Instead, the prophet simply tells him to go wash in the Jordan river.
