Maya Lin: A Strong Clear Vision – Discussion led by Christine Sellin

The Spiritual Growth Forum for Sunday, February 9, 2020

Maya Lin: A Strong Clear Vision

Discussion led by Christine Sellin, art  professor from California Lutheran University

Maya Lin: A Strong Clear Vision won the 1994 Academy Award for Best
Documentary Feature. The film tracks this young, American-Japanese
architecture student who created the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington, D.C., arguably the most successful and moving civic monument worldwide.
Singlehandedly, Ms. Lin revolutionized the idea of what public monuments
and civic art can and should be. She began her work in the late 1960s.  To create the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington, D.C., she faced significant
challenges and difficulties because her ideas conflicted with convention
and ideas about heroism. Maya Lin is based in southern California and is
very successful today. She continues to work on major projects.
