BUILDING PROGRAM RECAP http://www.htlcto.org/archives/2008/08/19/building-program-recap/ http://www.htlcto.org/archives/2008/08/19/building-program-recap/#comments Wed, 20 Aug 2008 05:04:27 +0000 Holy Trinity Lutheran http://www.htlcto.org/archives/2008/08/19/building-program-recap/ What Have We Agreed On

  • This is a recap of what we have agreed on through a 5-year process of small group and committee meetings, a Long Range Plan, a Facility Usage Study and several congregational votes. Our goal is to use this information to help the architect and Building Committee turn these ideas into the specific drawings needed to develop the facilities we will use in our next 50 years of ministry.

  • Overall Project Ideas

    • Ministry always needs to be the primary focus of our efforts. The buildings are simply tools to further our mission as a congregation.

    • Any new space should be designed to be utilized for multiple purposes.

    • All construction should be phased to minimize disruption to the Honey Tree school day and other ministries.

    • The overall plan should incorporate a central campus and unified master use design.

    • Parking needs to provide close proximity to the sanctuary/central campus.

    • Buildings must be easily accessible to people of all ages and levels of mobility.

    • There is an overall need for more storage.

    • We should incorporate environmentally conscious “green” elements.

  • Three Main Building Areas

    • Large Fellowship Hall/Multi-Purpose Meeting Room With Classrooms

    • Honey Tree

    • Youth Space

NEW FELLOWSHIP HALL

  • Large multi-purpose room where we can all meet as a congregation.

  • Classrooms

    • Six classrooms, three of which should be 1,000 sq. feet.

    • Wired for new technology, with flexibility to incorporate new technologies.

    • Used for Village Sunday School, VBS, Happy Timers, Bible Studies and more.

    • Media centers in several rooms.

  • Moderately-sized improved kitchen facility

    • Features to include large refrigerator with ice maker or separate industrial ice maker, garbage disposal, warming ovens, water spigot, smaller restaurant style coffee pots,, dishwasher (racks/professional style), microwave, griddle, farm sink, island, self-cleaning oven, real dishes - enough for 50 (Corelle) with coffee mugs and soup bowls, numerous electrical outlets including on the preparation island(s), ample storage(with separate cabinets for each group), nice lighting, nice looking floor with easy maintenance, lightweight tables with smooth surface for easy cleaning, enough matching table cloths for all the tables (preferably white)

  • Stage Area.

  • Good acoustics for both musical performances and events.

  • Storage for homeless shelter and other groups.

  • Improved temperature controls.

  • Men and women’s restrooms, with showers.

  • Janitorial space and laundry facility.

HONEY TREE

  • Phased construction approach to minimize disruption.

  • Nursery, which can also be used on Sundays and other events (VBS, Concert for the Homeless, Trunk or Treat) should include a toddler bathroom and full toddler change setup.

  • New Honey Tree Directors office and new classroom.

  • More storage and teacher prep area.

  • Additional playground with proximity to classrooms.

  • Access to Fellowship Hall for rainy days.

YOUTH SPACE

  • Dedicated Youth Center.

  • Upgrade from the Hut: safe, clean, more room and better external lighting.

  • Private Offices for Youth Director & Children’s Christian Ed.

  • Media area, technology space and library/resource area.

  • Kitchen area/access.

  • Lockable storage.

  • Youth patio.

  • Pass-through access from parking lot.

  • Noise reduction for Fireside Room.

ENVIRONMENTALLY RESPONSIBLE BUIDLING

  • The architect has presented a vast number of “Green” building opportunities and strategies including specific building materials, landscaping, photovoltaic/solar, water efficiency, windows, energy and lighting options. Though these can incur additional costs, they will be a major part of the plan development.

“MUSIC 4 MEALS” Charity Music Event Raises Food, Funds, and Awareness For Local Food Banks http://www.htlcto.org/archives/2008/07/28/%e2%80%9cmusic-4-meals%e2%80%9d-charity-music-event-raises-food-funds-and-awareness-for-local-food-banks/ http://www.htlcto.org/archives/2008/07/28/%e2%80%9cmusic-4-meals%e2%80%9d-charity-music-event-raises-food-funds-and-awareness-for-local-food-banks/#comments Mon, 28 Jul 2008 20:34:56 +0000 Holy Trinity http://www.htlcto.org/archives/2008/07/28/%e2%80%9cmusic-4-meals%e2%80%9d-charity-music-event-raises-food-funds-and-awareness-for-local-food-banks/

After the success of the first Music4Meals event last December, coordinators Chris and Julie Marasco were encouraged to hold a summer event on Saturday July 26, once again assembling a free outdoor concert and asking attendees to bring in exchange food and supplies for the needy.

“The event was a huge success”, exclaimed Julie Marasco, lead coordinator.  “The day was beautiful and the crowd included people traveling from outside Conejo Valley to help support the cause.”

The “Music4Meals” event was held outdoors on the church grounds and featured talented local teen musician Hunter Buchanan, The Shades, Zen-Boogie, Masters of Space and Time, and Holy Trinity’s children’s choir The Aisle Cruisers.  The Shades features Johnny Garcia and Chris Marasco as guitarists and singers.

“We’d really like to thank our local sponsors who supported their community by donating food and other materials:  Holy Trinity, Trader Joe’s in Thousand Oaks, Vons on Moorpark Road and Newbury Road, Ralph’s on Ventu Park, Costco of Westlake Village, Party Max, Subway, Mimi’s Café, Ameci Pizza and Stuft Pizza all of Thousand Oaks, California Pizza Kitchen in Westlake Village and Chili’s in Newbury Park.  Mike Stahl of ATK Audiotek donated their professional sound system for the event.

Marasco was thrilled with the event’s results.  “So far we’ve raised over $1700 in cash and collected over 100 bags of groceries for the food shelters at a crucial time, which exceeded the results of our last event!  We’re really thankful for this community effort.”

All donated proceeds are being distributed to Lutheran Social Services, MANNA, and those who attend the weekly Monday night meals program hosted by Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.
