Basics of Biblical Discipleship

This moment in our history invites us to look back at what God has done in and through this congregation. It also challenges us to dream big dreams and to stake our claim for the future in hope. Now is the time to rededicate our lives to what it means to be a disciple of Jesus and a member of the Body of Christ. Tomorrow is built on who we are today – so let us commit to renewed discipleship. Today we affirm our devotion to God by renewing our dedication to the basic practices of Christian faith.

Together we will strive to:

Grow Spiritually – Bible study, prayer groups, discussion groups, devotions, Youth Groups, Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and educational meetings help with continuing spiritual and personal growth.

Live a Prayerful Life – Pray for the congregation as a whole – that faithful decisions are made, that programs and activities change lives, and that relationships are healed. Pray for the Pastors and other key leaders in the church, the needs of the community, the nation, and the world.

Worship Regularly – We all help our faith and our sense of community grow by regular attendance at worship. At the heart of a faith community is our shared experience in worship with the divine.

Practice Hospitality – When we are invited, welcomed, and befriended we begin to feel at home in a church family. When we offer hospitality to newcomers by welcoming, learning names, making friends, offering forgiveness, expressing encouragement, sharing a meal, or doing a kind deed we make a difference in the lives of others and our church family grows!

Respond to the Needs of our Community and World –Jesus commands us to love others as we ourselves are loved. We are called to advocate for and support God’s people who are in need and to speak out for peace and justice. We are also called to be good stewards of the earth and all its creatures.

Provide Financial Support – The practical side of ministry involves things like maintaining facilities, paying staff, funding programs, and service to the community. The resources needed come from individual and family giving. While tithing is the biblical standard, each member and family contributes as we are able. When each of us carries our share of the load our shared ministry is strengthened.

Make the Church’s Mission and Vision Our Own – Our mission is, “Serving Christ in our neighbor”. When we support our congregational goals in our words, attitudes and actions, we invest in the future of the church. Volunteering our time, talents and financial resources, we each make an important and unique contribution to the mission and ministries of this congregation.

Each one of us is in a different season in life. We may be facing challenges or celebrating blessings, whatever the season. Recognizing our reliance on God in all things, we commit to live out our faith, as individuals and as a Church, to the best of our ability. We walk together by the grace of God.
