Who Else Likes to Save Money?
8/20/2006
By: Howard Young
With the sudden surge in our expenses it’s often difficult on fixed budgets to keep our commitments to Christ’s ministry. Sadly, we sometimes have to resort to cutting back our tithes just to make ends meet.
Warmed by the Light

By: Pastor Janet
As a child, my elder sister, Kathy, gave each of her three younger sisters nicknames. How and why we were each dubbed, as we were, remains a bit of a mystery, but my sister has referred to me as “Little Light†for over 30 years now.
Maybe that association along with others has shaped my […]

Where did this year go? Here we are already in giving thanks. The month, that intentionally reminds us of all our blessings. Before the
darker days of winter hit, we remember the blessings of God upon us.
For many, this has been a year of disaster—beginning with tsunamis and going to hurricanes, earthquakes, and fires, […]

“Faith Journey.†One of our pastors used the term at a recent meeting. What a profound way to reference our spiritual life. It isn’t that the destination is not important. We all want to end up in our afterlives in the place with the more temperate climate. But our lives as Christians while here on […]
Faithfulness Today Shapes Life for Tomorrow
7/3/2005
By: Holy Trinity Lutheran
No profound insight, really, something perhaps we can all give a nod to and then move on with our lives. But so many circumstances of late have brought that reality home for me and I suspect for many of us. A strong family connectedness and faith foundation was in place for Tim and Jeff and […]

The seasons of the church year do not have a section called vacation. However, they do speak of time away for prayer and renewal. This is an interesting concept, time away for prayer and renewal.
It has been said that we are a culture that is growing more and more secular, in other words time […]

Welcome Custodian Bob Ritterbush
4/19/2005
By: Holy Trinity Lutheran
Our long time friendly and dedicated custodian, Jim Lieberknecht, has earned his retirement from this position, however he does continue on as our bookkeeper.
We have been fortunate in finding a very capable and dependable replacement from our own ranks. Bob Ritterbush has accepted the part-time position of co-custodian with Anne Lieberknecht and started last March […]

Although subject to some debate, many believe the word Easter comes from the Teutonic Eastre, or pagan goddess of Spring, whose existence was honored on the vernal equinox or first day of Spring. Others take special note of the common root of the word, or east, as where the sun rises. What is indisputable is […]
Thoughts While Running
Yes, I am still running, even after falling and breaking my hand. It has become something of a symbol to me. Life is like that, just when we think we have it all figured out or we are moving right along, something comes along to detour us and make us rethink or question. But, I […]

The lands we will focus on during our Wednesday nights of soup suppers and worship will be Tanzania, Japan, Kenya, Slovakia, Norway, and Germany.
As we mark Christ’s […]
Gathered by God’s Grace — Lent to Easter
3/3/2005
By: Holy Trinity Lutheran
The theme in our mid-week evening worship services Gathered by God’s Grace invites us to take the hands of people we have never met and share the journey of faith with them. On Sunday mornings this month we take time to reflect on the marks of our discipleship as followers of Jesus.
The two foci […]

By: Holy Trinity Lutheran
The Season of Lent is of course a time for introspection, for self-examination, and repentance, in preparation for Easter and the Resurrection of our Lord. The forty days between Ash Wednesday and Easter Sunday (excluding the Sundays in between, as we must) are said to reflect the traditional number of days used to depict discipline, […]

Wow, what a lot of rain! As I sit to write this, the sun is finally shining. Those who have been evacuated are beginning to return to their homes, and people in La Conchita are mourning and still looking for loved ones. What a mixture of feelings. We need the rain, but Lord this is […]

God’s peace to you in this New Year
12/27/2004
By: Pastor Janet
The New Year … a line in the sands of time drawn with invitation to take stock, to renew, to anticipate, to reflect. As God’s people, we do this corporately, together. We are invited to pause our lives and to come together to look forward — together, as a community of faith. So we each […]
Message from the Church Council President
Awhile back, some friends of ours circulated a little prayer that had the ring of a New Year’s Resolution to it:
A PRAYER
So far today, I’ve done all right. I haven’t gossiped, lost my temper, been greedy or grumpy, been nasty selfish or overindulgent. I’m very thankful for that. But in a few minutes, God, […]
The Season of Advent
12/1/2004
By: Holy Trinity Lutheran
December is upon us. Time seems to go by very quickly. The season of Advent is about time and the fullness of it. Advent is about reminding us that Christ has come, is present in our midst and will come again. It is about the past, present and future of the Kingdom. But, it does […]
Message from the New Church Council President
To all of you who have offered your congratulations, and condolences, over the past few months following the Council’s election of a President Pro Tern, my heartfelt thanks.
Since our family began attending this church, I was always aware that Sherrie Smith, and Margaret Dove before her, as past Presidents of the Church Council, were […]
Annual Lutheran Advance

By: Holy Trinity Lutheran
The Annual Lutheran Men’s Advance at El Camino Pines was held the last weekend in September, with Pastor Glen Egertson and Dr. Bill Bersley from CLU leading talks and discussions about “Hunting for Connection.†The emphasis was on hunting specifically for spiritual connection and the importance of mentors and role models in that process. Particularly […]
