Meet our Interim Associate Pastor, Pastor Tom!

The Rev. D. Thomas (Tom) Ford, Jr., has served as a parish pastor in North Carolina, Illinois, Ohio, Colorado, and as the first Director of Development for Habitat for Humanity in Americus, Georgia, where he worked with former President Jimmy Carter. In 1986 he became Area Director for Lutheran Social Services of Southern California, later serving as Vice President and Associate Director of Development (1986-1993). From 1993 to 2003 he was Executive Director of Metropolitan Lutheran Ministry (a Lutheran Social Services agency) and its associated foundation in Kansas City, Missouri. From Feb. 1, 2003 – March 25, 2003 he served as Executive Director of Lutheran Social Services of Northeast Florida.Pastor Tom gives Communion

From October 1, 2003 through March 31, 2007 he served as Pastor of Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church, Ashtabula, Ohio. Starting in June of 2007 Pastor Ford served as Supply Pastor for The Southwest California Synod of the ELCA. From Feb. 16, 2008 through June 30, 2008 he served as Intentional Interim Pastor for Salem Lutheran Church, Glendale, CA. From October 1, 2008 through May 31, 2012 he served as Intentional Interim Pastor for Grace Lutheran Church in Glendora, CA., leading Grace and Calvary Lutheran churches to merge, and remaining for one year as the Senior Pastor of the new Grace of Calvary Lutheran Church.

Pastor Tom greets churchgoersBeginning June 1, 2012 he chose to return to serving the Southwest California Synod as an Interim Pastor. From Sept. 4, 2012 through September 30, 2013 he served as full-time Interim Pastor of Christ Lutheran Church, Long Beach, CA.

On Oct. 1, 2013 he formally retired after 40 years 3 months’ service as a Pastor. He has been serving since then as a pulpit supply, most recently at The Lutheran Church in the Foothills, La Canada, for 4 Sundays.
