From the Pastor: God’s Creative Spirit Shapes the Future

When I think about the children who canter, saunter and slide up to the altar area every week to get their eye-level moments with the Word of God, I try to imagine what their world will be like in 10, 15, 20 years.  Will electronic pads replace text books?  Will my grandchildren (God-willing) have any idea what a “yellow pad” refers to?   One thing I know for sure, their lives now aren’t a whole lot like mine was at their age. Another thing I am pretty certain of is that the future they are living into will take on characteristics that haven’t yet been imagined or developed.  Did you know that many, if not most, of the jobs that recent college graduates will obtain this year did not even exist when these students started their college career?

While it can be unsettling to ponder how fast our society is changing, when we think about the fact that God holds the future and it is God’s creative Spirit that is at work shaping the future, it can also be pretty exciting to see what God is up to!  Our mission as a church is to serve Christ in our neighbor.  To do this is to be partners with God, sharing in and delighting in the ways that God is at work in the world., and moving into the future with God’s guidance.

Our congregation is not only a place where God provides shelter and comfort to us amidst the changes of life, it is also the training ground for God to teach us to partner well, to train and equip us to share God’s love in ways that can and will be heard among the people outside our community whom God loves dearly, and who may not know how very loved they are.

Holy Trinity has a long history of being alive and responsive to the guidance of the Spirit, so that we are available to grow as God would have us grow.  I’m so excited about the ways that we are continuing to live out that legacy!  This coming Sunday, everyone in the congregation who has a heart for helping children grow in faith is invited to a gathering in the fellowship hall – where, led by the Spirit, we will dream and plan together for our ministry to our children and to the children that God will lead to us this year.  Several questions and ideas were offered in our congregational meeting 2 weeks ago about our ministry with and for children, please plan on being a part of the energy and planning that will move us forward in the coming months.

In the Light of God’s grace,

Pastor Janet

Our Sermon for February 5th

Our sermon for this Sunday will be given by Pastor Frank Nausin and is titled, “A Super Bowl Discipline”.

The sermon will be given at all three services: 8:15, 9:45, and 11:00AM.

As this is the first Sunday of the month, there are no regular Sunday School classes so that children can attend worship with their families.  Communion will be given at the 9:45AM informal service, which many children enjoy experiencing.  The youth also have no class and this is a good day for them to fill out their Sermon Note sheets, available in the Narthex. The nursery is open during all three services as usual, for babies and toddlers.

Our Spiritual Growth Adult Forum will be held in the Fireside Room at 9:45 and 11:00AM.  This week begins a new series titled “Christianity: The Second Thousand Years” and will be moderated by Dr. A. Joseph Everson.  Over a six week period, participants will view and discuss segments of a new video produced by Filmroos, Inc. for the A&E Television Network.  This week focuses on events such as the “Sack of Constantinople”, the era of the cathedrals, and the Horrors of the Crusades among many other things.
