Additional news from the Action Foundation:
Although most of Ventura County has been spared this time around from actual fire, we have been greatly impacted by wind and smoke and many of us have family members/friends who have been evacuated or lost their homes in the other counties. Over 1200 homes have been destroyed, 1 in 3 homes in San Diego County have been evacuated thus far.
Remember to check on your neighbors, particularly those who are disabled, elderly or with a health condition, not by just calling but actually checking on them and their property. Be mindful of downed power lines and call 911 if needed. Make sure you have updated phone numbers for htose “at risk” neighbors including emergency contact numbers.
For seniors and disabled living alone, this can be a scary time as they sit and watch disaster unfolding on their television sets with the darkening sky outside. A simple call or visit can help alleviate some of the stress.
If you are interested in volunteering to help fire victim families, please contact the Red Cross, Goodwill (888) 446-6394 (www.goodwill.org) or the Salvation Army (www.salvationarmy.org).
