Winter Homeless Shelter at Holy Trinity

The 2004-2005 Winter Homeless Shelter season at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church has come to an end and Leslie and I want to thank the HTLC members who gave so freely of their time, talents and breakfast making skills. Without your time and efforts the shelter would not have run as smoothly as it did.
This year, as well as the last 3 years, we’ve seen an increase in the number of dinner guests as well as the number of people staying overnight. Dinner guests increased 13% over last year while overnighters increased by 7%. The reasons for these increases are varied, but needless to say, unless some sort of state funding miracle happens, we must continue to provide stopgap shelter and dinners.
This season we tried a different approach to running the shelter by establishing a committee of 6 couples. This meant little more than a month commitment from each of the couples. Besides making the shelter easier to run, having additional people helped make more people aware of the homeless situation in the Conejo Valley.
Next year we, again, will be using this approach and welcome your help with the shelter. Time commitment is minimal and the reward is immense. If you would like to become involved with the Winter Homeless Shelter, please contact Tom or Leslie Robison.
