What Have We Agreed On

• This is a recap of what we have agreed on through a 5-year process of small group and committee meetings, a Long Range Plan, a Facility Usage Study and several congregational votes. Our goal is to use this information to help the architect and Building Committee turn these ideas into the specific drawings needed to develop the facilities we will use in our next 50 years of ministry.

• Overall Project Ideas

  • Ministry always needs to be the primary focus of our efforts. The buildings are simply tools to further our mission as a congregation.

• • Any new space should be designed to be utilized for multiple purposes.

  • All construction should be phased to minimize disruption to the Honey Tree school day and other ministries.

  • The overall plan should incorporate a central campus and unified master use design.

  • Parking needs to provide close proximity to the sanctuary/central campus.

  • Buildings must be easily accessible to people of all ages and levels of mobility.

  • There is an overall need for more storage.

  • We should incorporate environmentally conscious “green” elements.

NEW FELLOWSHIP HALL

• Large multi-purpose room where we can all meet as a congregation.

  • Six classrooms, three of which should be 1,000 sq. feet.

  • Wired for new technology, with flexibility to incorporate new technologies.

  • Used for Village Sunday School, VBS, Happy Timers, Bible Studies and more.

  • Media centers in several rooms.

• Moderately-sized improved kitchen facility

  • Features to include large refrigerator with ice maker or separate industrial ice maker, garbage disposal, warming ovens, water spigot, smaller restaurant style coffee pots,, dishwasher (racks/professional style), microwave, griddle, farm sink, island, self-cleaning oven, real dishes – enough for 50 (Corelle) with coffee mugs and soup bowls, numerous electrical outlets including on the preparation island(s), ample storage(with separate cabinets for each group), nice lighting, nice looking floor with easy maintenance, lightweight tables with smooth surface for easy cleaning, enough matching table cloths for all the tables (preferably white)

• Phased construction approach to minimize disruption.

• Nursery, which can also be used on Sundays and other events (VBS, Concert for the Homeless, Trunk or Treat) should include a toddler bathroom and full toddler change setup.

• New Honey Tree Directors office and new classroom.

• More storage and teacher prep area.

• Additional playground with proximity to classrooms.

• Access to Fellowship Hall for rainy days.

YOUTH SPACE

• Dedicated Youth Center.

• Upgrade from the Hut: safe, clean, more room and better external lighting.

• Private Offices for Youth Director & Children’s Christian Ed.

• Media area, technology space and library/resource area.

• Kitchen area/access.

• Lockable storage.

• Youth patio.

• Pass-through access from parking lot.

• Noise reduction for Fireside Room.

ENVIRONMENTALLY RESPONSIBLE BUIDLING

• The architect has presented a vast number of “Green” building opportunities and strategies including specific building materials, landscaping, photovoltaic/solar, water efficiency, windows, energy and lighting options. Though these can incur additional costs, they will be a major part of the plan development.

For the past 50 years, church and school choirs audition to join the mass 700+ member Choir by submitting audition tapes of recent recordings and one which Disney selects.  This year, our Choir submitted the recording of our Sunday Anthem “Be Still” and Disney’s arrangement of “What Child is This.”

The short 8 week preparation of memorizing the 12 arrangements, ends with a regional rehearsal at Newbury Park HS (also selected).

At Disneyland December 5th, there is a short warmup with the muscians and guest narrator and two performances at 5:30 PM and 8:00 PM.

Our mission: Partnering with families in teaching children to love, live, and learn the Word of God.

The Aisle Cruisers Children from 2^nd through 6^th grade meet weekly from September until June in a children’s choir with a twist! Under the direction of Steven Johnson-Egertson, they write and perform their own songs based on themes including The Ten Commandments, peace, and Christmas.

Nursery Loving nursery care is available during all services for children from newborn to 36 months old. Books, music, and art are just some of the activities available to our youngest friends. Pagers are available to help you keep in touch, if desired. There are diaper changing tables available in the nursery (located across the courtyard from the sanctuary) and in the “cry room” off of the narthex. (See the Virtual Tour link on our home page for a tour of all church facilities).

Village Sunday School Our Sunday School takes it’s name from the African proverb, “it takes a village to raise a child”. We strive to involve the whole congregation, not just parents, in teaching our children about God’s love. From September ‘til June, we meet in the Sanctuary at 9:45AM on Sunday mornings for our opening and then proceed to our classrooms. Our goal there is to support our children’s faith journeys through age-appropriate Bible stories and activities in a safe, nurturing environment.

Vacation Bible School Though our Village Sunday School is on hiatus during the summer months, there are still other activities going on. Vacation Bible School is a fun-filled week of crafts, stories, games, and snacks focused on a different biblically-based theme every year. Sign-ups begin each spring. Milestones Ministry Milestones Ministry recognizes and celebrates the many different faith milestones our children experience. We celebrate nine milestones throughout the year including baptism, service, and prayer. It is a very special experience for the children.

For those who prefer a later hour, our second Traditional Service remains at it’s current 11:00AM time. Village Sunday School and the Adult Education Hour remain at 9:45. Please join us!

Rally Day will be held in conjunction with our Open House at Honey Tree Early Childhood Center, an outreach program of Holy Trinity Church.

Families and people of all ages are invited to attend. Holy Trinity has a strong Sunday School program, a very active, and a growing congregation of over 1000 members.

“Holy Trinity is a wonderful place to share our faith,” says Linda Pohlman, a member of the Outreach Team. “We learn, we live, and we love the word of God together, and we enjoy working together on many projects which help our local community and our national and global community as well. There are wonderful opportunities here for spiritual and personal growth”.

Honey Tree begins its 34th year under leadership of a new director, Calla Chevalier. Classes range from 3 year old through kindergarten. Honey Tree Open House will take place from 1:00 until 4:00PM. All are welcome.

Sunday School registration begins in the courtyard at 9:30AM and continues through the Ice Cream Social event, which will include a hot dog lunch for $2 each, an ice cream sundae buffet for $1 each, and free crafts, games, water play, and a jolly jumper. The Ice Cream Social will begin at 11:00AM and last until 4:00PM. Dress comfortably, and bring your sunscreen!

Village Sunday school’s education theme will center on “Living Wet”, a reflection and celebration of baptismal living. New families are encouraged to come join the fun and ask questions at the registration desk.

“Holy Trinity’s Village Sunday School program features a different theme each year,” says Rose Egertson, Director of Children’s Ministry. “Our new theme of “Living Wet” will lend itself well to teaching children about familiar Bible stories and relating them to their lives in fun and meaningful ways.” And as always, each class session will be a fun experience with story time, discussion, crafts, snacks, and songs.

Village Sunday School was named based on the African proverb, “It takes a village to raise a child”, and HTLC encourages families and congregations to participate in a variety of ways. Classes are from ages 4 years to 6th grade.

Honey Tree Early Childhood Center is accredited by the National Academy of Early Childhood Programs, a division of the National Association for the Education of Young Children. NAEYC is the nation’s largest organization of early childhood educators. Accredited schools have complied with the Academy’s criteria for high quality early childhood programs through a comprehensive process of internal self-study and external professional review.
